Playa del Carmen
Tips for using taxis in Playa del Carmen.
This is 5th avenue or as they say here “quinta avenida.” The ADO bus station is the main place for buses coming or going in Playa. The ADO buses are very popular in Mexico. They travel from the airport in Cancun all the way down the coast to Belize. The cost to or from the airport is about $250 pesos or $15 dollars. If you arrive at the airport in Cancun, it is one of the easiest and cheapest options available. Once you leave the airport, ignore all of the people yelling and asking if you want a taxi. Instead look for the red ADO sign or ask someone where it is. Anyone will readily help you find it. Once you buy the ticket, they will tell you where to catch the bus. Make sure the bus you get on is going to where you want it to. The bus ride to Playa del Carmen from the airport takes about an hour.
Once you arrive in Playa del Carmen, they will drop you off here at the ADO building. It is located on the corner of 5th ave and Benito Juarez. If you would like to save a little money, do NOT get a taxi when you exit the building. Within a few block radius of 5th avenue, the taxi drivers are allowed to charge whatever they want. They may charge you $20 to $30 dollars or more to give you a ride somewhere. However, if you walk several blocks away from the ocean, up to 20th or further, the taxi drivers have set rates. From that point, the rate should only be around $60 pesos or $3.50 dollars. Another great option is to use a taxi app called “radiotaxi pdc” They will charge you the going rate plus $40 pesos for using the app.
