Ferry to Cozumel
Tips for taking the ferry from Playa to Cozumel.
There are two different ferry’s that you can take from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel. There is Winjet, (orange ones pictured) or Ultramar (bright yellow)
If you are wanting to go snorkeling or diving, Cozumel is one of the best places to go in Mexico. There are about 50,000 people that live on the island. Cozumel is about 17 miles straight across from Playa del Carmen. The ferry takes about 45 minutes to an hour to cross each way. The price is around $260 pesos or $15 US each way. There is a ferry that leaves every hour on the hour from each side. However, the ferry schedule does change every month, so its important to double check the times. You can look up the schedule and prices at cozumel-tours.com
You do not need to buy them online, you can buy them at the ticket office next to the ferry building. The price should be the same. As you are walking toward the ferry dock, there will be lots of workers yelling at you, asking if you are wanting to go to Cozumel. They will try to sell you snorkeling tours or direct you to small little kiosks that will sell you ferry tickets at an inflated price. Do NOT go to the little kiosks. Go directly to the official ticket office on either side of the ferry building.
